Lip Repositioning

In an aesthetically pleasing smile, the upper lip will sit just above the top of the teeth. In a “gummy” smile, however, the smile may sit well above the top of the teeth, exposing large amounts of the gum tissue.

Treatment options for a gummy smile vary but typically include:

• Maxillofacial Surgery – During this procedure, the jaw is surgically broken and placed higher in the mouth so that less of the gums will show when smiling.

• BOTOX of the Upper Lip – BOTOX can prevent the lip from raising too high when the patient smiles. However, the procedure is not permanent and may require multiple injections a year to maintain the look.

• Gum Surgery and Veneers – During this procedure the gums are cut back and veneers are placed on the teeth. This allows more of the teeth to show and can help correct the gum to tooth ratio. However, if your teeth are already long the effect can be horse-like.

• Pinhole Surgical Technique - The minimally invasive, no sew procedure that does not require stitches!
