Laser Dentistry
Dentistry has come a long way in the past decade as dental lasers replaced many of the surgical procedures patients are accustomed to. Today, dental lasers are growing in popularity among dentists who use the technology to give patients precision treatment that minimizes discomfort, bleeding and recovery time.
Laser dentistry offers many benefits. It allows us to perform procedures using soft-tissue dental lasers that do not require stitches. Some laser procedures can be performed entirely without anesthesia. Soft-tissue laser dentistry minimizes bleeding because the laser facilitates blood clotting and inhibits blood loss. It also minimizes bacterial infections using laser energy to sterilize each area your dentist treats. Greater precision means less damage to surrounding mouth tissues. Wounds heal faster and tissues can regenerate.
The FDA has approved of a variety of hard- and soft-tissue lasers for dental treatment of adults and children. Hard-tissue lasers can be used on bone and teeth. They are better for cutting through tooth structure with extreme precision. We use hard-tissue lasers for "prepping" teeth for composite bonding and repair of worn dental fillings. Periodontics soft-tissue lasers are more effective for soft-tissue management and periodontal disease treatment because they kill bacteria and stimulate regrowth of tissues. Soft-tissue lasers effectively seal blood vessels and nerve endings. This is why patients have little to no pain. Soft-tissue lasers help patients heal faster, too.
Patients come to us for laser gum surgery from all over New York City, including Bensonhurst, Canarsie, Mill Basin, Marine Park, Bay Ridge and neighboring communities in Brooklyn, NY.
